This is gonna be a short but VERY sweet blog post.Well, for those of you who are MAN UNITED FANS.

Of course 19 being the number of English league title wins for the legends. What a season it’s been, and I get the feeling we’ve only just begun. I’ve been a fan since I was 8 years old, so definitely it’s United for life. When @phr0ggi and I started dating, one of the first things I asked him was which team he supported. Deal breaker.:)

So though I don’t have a team shirt yet, (shoosh, it’s the only sphere I’m supersuperstitious about, ) I decided to show my passion for the red devils by doing a little Manchester United inspired make up look.It’s all reds, black and white and touch of gold.

No, it’s not the facepaint look you might encounter at matches, but it’s a kitty stiletto touch.Why the hell can you not look glamorous while your team wins? I even added some false lashes with little balls/pearls on the ends.

Non-Blonde Ambition

This post isn’t technically one about make-up, but it is a very touching, human story and I thought I needed to share it with you.

Yesterday while I was playing make believe in my bathroom (read: cleaning the bath), I couldn’t find the usual thick bleach cream, must’ve misplaced it. *The brand I have is called Good Maid> So much wrong.* So I used the stuff I first bought when I came to Dubai. It’s the liquid bleach. And there I was unglamorously on all fours, reluctantly scrubbing away the grime, and happy that the white was almost white again, when getting up,I unceremoniously knocked the bottle of bleach all over my clothes.

A few (okay, maybe not just a few) foul words later, and cleaning clothes in the laundry bin, I threw off my gloves and watched a bit of a Masterchef rerun, while sipping cranberry juice. Two glasses and twenty minutes later I needed the loo. And that’s when i saw it.

I let out a scream that had the cats taking cover under the bed until Daddy came home. The image in the mirror scared the shit out of me. (Good thing I was on the toilet seat.) No, it wasn’t a ghost, but I might have felt better if it was. Staring back at me was my reflection in the mirror. No, it wasn’t that I was wearing any make-up. ( :p ) It was that part of me was blonde, and blonde in spots and bumpy streaks.

My recently dyed reddish-brown hair looked like I’d received a hair transplant from a skunk suffering from Parkinsons. Really. So what to do?

Well, freak out of course! I did all I could to not laugh at how ridiculous the entire situation was, because if I did laugh, I was certain I would really die laughing.Then I’d be screwed cos they’d find my body experiencing a seriously bad hair day, and that ain’t gonna happen while I’m alive.

I put on a hat, ran down to the store and bought a pack of redder than my recent colour dye, cos I just didn’t want ANY scent of skunk coming through…

Oh, about the touching, human story: I lied. Moral of story: Keep the fkng cap on the bottle at all times!

I’m (not) a Barbie Girl

I meant to post this last week already, and do a 'Royal Wedding' make up look,  but my immune system decided I should be sick. Will try and play catch up.

 Growing up, I never had a Barbie doll.
It's not that I wasn't the dolly type of girl- I had my fair share of dolls, but never a Barbie. Playing with dolls for me though, was a love/hate affair. I loved them, but I think if they could, they probably hated me, and here’s why:

My favourite dolls were the ones with the best hair. I loved the hair. I combed it, styled it, washed it, loved it so much that I couldn’t help myself when it came to replacing it…yes the hair. I adored her brown/blonde/black/orange (hey , kids tell it like it is- it’s orange, not red) hair , but wondered how she’d look with orange/black/blonde/brown hair. Okay well maybe not orange. Come to think of it, you never got dolls with red hair when I was a kid.

Wigs I made from wool, embroidery thread and all sorts of wonderful things hidden in my mom’s treasure chest of textile goodies.. Which she’d later discover had a few items missing.

And my reinventions didn’t stop at the hair.

I was the creative kid who was going to take over the world one makeover at a time. Beside the hair replacement ops, makeovers included changing my doll’s makeup, (‘how?’, you ask.. don’t ask,) and making new clothes. My mom still reminds me of the beautiful dress she was busy making for herself when one of the sleeves mysteriously disappeared only to reanimate itself as my doll’s latest evening gown.

Yes, I was THAT girl. The one who if you left her to her own devices who knows how the world might change when you come looking for her.

Not much has changed in that respect, except now my own devices include mostly my ‘own’.

Of the things I remember wanting as a kid, a piano, a guitar and a Barbie doll were some. I still want the piano, I got the guitar a few years later, and as for the Barbie, well, now’s as good a time as any to have one/be one/play one. I call her Bubblegum Barbie, and I’ll probably do another Barbie look at a later stage, with blonde wig to boot, but she was fun and it seems not that far from some women’s reality in Dubai. I guarantee you’ll find at least a handful of Barbies in most malls here any day of the week.

Orange Barbie?

*I always thought Barbie wasn’t really pretty and her body too out of proportion, perhaps my Mom agreed and bought me Sindys and Debbies instead…I think Debbie just left Dallas then.

Superkitty?

I think pizza is possibly the only ‘junk’ food that tastes good cold. And having a heated discussion with an avid Batman/Joker fan not too long ago (you know who you are, honey ), it was a good thing we sat down at a pizza joint. This wasn’t the first time I riled him about the fact that just because he KNEW everything about Batman (no really, he can be called on if Batman had amnesia) it didn’t automatically mean he was RIGHT about everything about Batman, particularly the last couple of movies .

About an hour later, and a cold pizza finally consumed, we headed back, him adamant that Christian Bale should self-combust. That’s the mild version of how the convo went down – I’m surprised we weren’t kicked out of the restaurant! I put my arm through his and commiserated: ’Times change honey, deal with it’.

But it got me thinking of change, and in particular of all the awesome interpretations of superheroes through the years. As fabulous as Tim Burton is, his almost plastocene Gotham (yes, yes, it was just like the comic book) would seem more pleistocene today. And that’s why change. And that’s why this Batman works now, as that one did then..well, minus Kilmer and Clooney of course, but who watched those?

So I thought what better way to kick off my first post in my new blog with an imagining of a superhero. I don’t know her name, but she’s make believe, and possibly if I were to create her a few months down the line, she’d be very different from what she is now…

Hey beautiful people

I don’t really like about pages. So I’m not going to write one. So this isn’t it.But if it were, it might have read something like this:

Welcome to Kitty Stiletto plays MakeBelieve.

Which one of us girls (and guys) didn’t like a bit of make believe when we were growing up? How much fun wasn’t it being an Arabian Princess, Cinderella, Snow White etc when we were little girls? We could conquer the world being queen for a day. The thing is, somewhere along the road, many of us stop playing make believe. We’re too old or too grown up or just too scared.

Well I say f**k that.

This is Kitty’s glitterbox where I dig in to all sorts of fabulous make up, hairstyles, fashion and, as the site says, play make believe. And hopefully inspire you to play make believe too.

After all, if you could conquer the world as Barbie when you were 10, imagine what you can do as Brigitte Bardot, Audrey Hepburn, Rihanna, Angelina or even Cleopatra for a day.
